Vehicle production in Brazil reached a total of 260,300 units in August, a figure that represents an increase of 45.7% over the same period of the previous year and 15.4% more than in July, according to the National Association of Manufacturers of Automotive Vehicles (Anfavea).
Thus Brazil reached 1,740,000 units manufactured during 2017, 25.5% more than in the first eight months of 2016.
Record figures came after years of deep crisis, and the sector is beginning to show a slow recovery in exports.
From January to August, 506,007 vehicles were exported, representing 29% of production and an increase of 56.1% compared to 324,223 units in the same period of the previous year.
In addition, during the eighth month of the current year, 66,582 vehicles were transported abroad, representing an increase of 61.7% compared to August 2016.
"The export sector has a very important role to play in our production," said Antonio Megale, president of Anfavea. "We hope that this will continue with a recovery in the domestic market, which should happen."
The sharp increase comes after the retraction in 2016, where the Brazilian automotive industry recorded a decrease of 11.2% in production and 20.19% in sales.
In addition, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released the inflation index that rose in August by 0.19%, the lowest result since 2010.
The price increase accumulated in the first eight months of the year is 1.62%, down from 5.42% in the same period of 2016 and the lowest result in the same comparison since 1994. The result placed inflation below of the Government's goal for this year, which is 4.5%.
